The Grace Chapel Church project focused on improving the building’s energy efficiency through targeted weatherization of the church’s crawlspace. By addressing heat loss through the crawlspace ceiling, the project helped improve the building envelope and reduce the amount of energy required to maintain comfortable interior temperatures.
As part of the project, R-30 closed-cell spray foam insulation was applied to the crawlspace ceiling, creating a durable thermal barrier and helping reduce heat transfer between the conditioned space and the crawlspace. A thermal paint coating was then applied as an additional component of the weatherization improvements.
The upgrades are expected to save approximately 788 therms of natural gas, helping reduce the church’s energy consumption and monthly utility costs. In addition to the direct energy savings, the improved insulation helps enhance the overall thermal performance of the building.
The project also received a 90% utility incentive, significantly reducing Grace Chapel Church’s out-of-pocket investment. This incentive made the energy-saving improvements more affordable while allowing the church to benefit from ongoing reductions in energy use and operating costs.
The Grace Chapel Church project demonstrates how strategic building-envelope improvements can deliver measurable energy savings while helping community organizations reduce operating expenses and invest in more efficient, comfortable facilities.
